Opportunity

Students who attend Copper Mountain College, who are interested in being an AVID tutor, should contact Sheri Hollbrook at CMC.  CMC is in the process of hiring AVID tutors who will be assigned as AVID tutors at one or more of the MUSD secondary schools:  TPJHS, TPHS, LCMS, and YVHS.

Being an AVID tutor is a great way for college students to give back to the community, develop their leadership skills, make a difference in the academic success of younger students, and to earn some money.

Jason Schmit, our AVID coordinator, is available to answer questions and put you in touch with the college.

Donors Choose

DonorsChoose.org is an online charity that makes it easy for anyone to help students in need. Teachers submit proposals and then donors submit financial support. After going to the DonorsChoose website click on Projects to search first by state, then by district and then by school for a current listing of proposals. Thank you for supporting our students.

SAT: Question of the Day

What is Academic Rigor?

AVID defines rigor as using inquiry-based, collaborative strategies to challenge and engage students in content resulting in increasingly complex levels of understanding.  Rigorous curriculum is a greater factor in determining college graduation rates than class standing, standardized test scores, or grade point average.  To improve college readiness, courses need to develop students as readers and writers, develop deep content knowledge, know content-specific strategies for reading, writing, thinking and speaking, and students need to develop habits, skills, and behaviorss to use knowledge and skills (See AVID page for more information on the program and its components).

Enrolling at TPJHS or Moving?

Enrollment begins with you contacting the school.  Your primary contact person at TPJHS for enrollment is Mrs. Laura Spear.  Although Mrs. Spear is the person who will be processing the majority of the enrollment paperwork, anyone in the office will do their best to assist you.

As with everything, there is paperwork involved in the enrollment process.  Enrollment packets are available in the office, and it is our hope that the entire enrollment packet will be online shortly.  Enrollment packets can be picked up in person, or if you prefer, we can mail one to you.

At TPJHS every student is assessed in the areas of English Language Arts and Math prior to having a schedule created.  This "extra" step is used to create the best schedule possible for every student.

Although it is preferred that appointments are made for enrollment and assessment, they are not required.  If you wish to make an appointment to enroll your child and schedule the assessments, please contact Mrs. Spear or Mrs. Mintz.

Are you moving?  If so, please see Mrs. Spear.  She will make arrangements for your child to check out on his/her last day of attendance.  She will also be the person sending your child's permanent record onto the next school of attendence.

Mrs. Spear can be reached by phone at (760) 367-9507 or by email at laura_spear@morongo.k12.ca.us.

Thank you.
